Pembroke College Formal Swaps - November and February
We've invited members of Pembroke College Science Society to dine here at John's, and soon we'll all head over to Pembroke and have a good time there. Do get involved with both sides of this swap, plenty of fun to be had.
Jesus College Formal Swaps - 24th October and 10h November
Are they Jesuits, or just Jesus students. We don't know, but they're a lot of fun. The home swap was a ball, and Jesus was beautiful. It's a shame I was close to dying from the flu and could barely speak, and didn'y go to J bar. Everyone else had a lovely time though I hear, and we look forward to swapping with Jesus again.
Dr Tom Crawford (TomRocksMaths) - Using Maths to Clean the Ocean
14th November, 19;30, Lightfoot Room of the Old Divinity School
Dr Crawford's Talk absolutely packed out the Lightfoot Room, and marked a strong start to our 24/25 academic calendar:
Where does river water go when it enters the ocean? And what does this have to do with plastic pollution? Dr Tom Crawford explains his PhD thesis in Fluid Dynamics, and shares the story of how he ended up sailing around Antarctica for 6 weeks in the name of maths…
Dr Tom Crawford is a mathematician at the University of Oxford - and now also the University of Cambridge - as well as the face of the award-winning 'Tom Rocks Maths’ YouTube channel. You may also recognise him from Numberphile, where he is often found talking all things fluids, or sharing some of the interview questions he uses for the Oxbridge admissions process. When not misbehaving with numbers, Tom can will most likely be playing football, snowboarding or getting a new maths-themed tattoo (15 and counting…).
Peterhouse College Formal Swaps

The oldest college, and former home of the Lord Kelvin. We have so far had the honour of welcoming Petreans to John's, and look forward to returning the favour
